just in case you were wondering. this is what they did to my knee.

Question: What is arthroscopic lateral release?

Answer: Arthroscopic lateral release is a surgical procedure used to correct difficulties with the kneecap, or patella. This procedure is most commonly performed on individuals who experience tightness in the lateral retinaculum -- the tissue that surrounds the knee and keeps it stabilized. If this tissue is too tight, it can cause the kneecap to be pulled out of its normal groove and off to one side of the joint. It may also result in recurrent patellar dislocation. Some people inherit this condition, while others develop problems after an injury to the knee. During an arthroscopic lateral release, an incision is made in the retinaculum to release the band of tissue so the kneecap can function properly.
